Jenifer AugustJennifer August
Owner/Artistic Director

Jennifer discovered her love of dance as a student here in Reno, NV. After graduation from Reno High School, she moved to Boston to study dance with Joan Palladino at Dean College where she received her associate’s degree. She was then selected to study at Alvin Ailey Dance Academy in New York City. In 1997, she received her BFA in dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where she studied with some of the foremost jazz and modern dancers in the country. Included among them were Ronen Koresh of the Koresh Dance Company, Wayne St. David, Doug Elkins, Beth Iguchi, Janine Bryant, Earl Mosley, Miltion Myers, and Pat Thomas. Jennifer elected to remain in Philadelphia, and became a member of the Paradigm Dance Company. Jennifer has performed with the Next Step Dance Company in New Jersey, and also began teaching at various studios throughout the area. Upon her return to Reno, she opened In Motion Studio of Dance, the Reno home of both Sierra Nevada Ballet and the Black Rock Dance Company.

It is a wonderful introduction to the breadth and depth of In Motion Studio of Dance, so if you are new to our website, please take a look. A Note From Blanca

When I was 14 years old, I walked into In Motion on a warm summer night. I signed the registration papers, kissed my Mom goodbye and walked into what I thought was going to be a normal lyrical class. What I didn’t know walking into that room was that the people in that class, the teacher, the owner of the studio, and the studio space itself were going to be what the next four amazing years of my life consisted of.

My experience at In Motion Studio of Dance has been one that can not be put into words. Every teacher at In Motion, whether it be in competition team rehearsals, night classes or summer camps, was completely dedicated to helping me in any way they could. Even though there is always room for personal improvement, I can very easily say that, thanks to the faculty of In Motion Studio of Dance, especially Jeniffer August and Jenny Buck, I am the dancer I have always dreamed of being.

I think what I love best is that this studio is not just a studio. It is a place of freedom. It is a home. It is a relaxed yet dedicated atmosphere that allows for dancers of any age and level to have fun and improve. But most of all, this studio is a family.  It is a family that welcomes new people with open arms and teaches its students to be focused and work well with other dancers. Now that I have graduated and am moving to Los Angeles to pursue my dance career further, I can look back at this studio and think of so many incredible memories that I could not have experienced anywhere else. Thank you so much to my competition team and my amazing teachers and mentors for everything. I am forever grateful to all of you for being my friends and, most of all, my family. I love you with my whole heart, and although I may not always be on the stage with you anymore, I will always be in that first row in the audience, cheering you all on, yelling our team chants: “WERKKKKKKK!!!!! and “SHUT IT DOWN!!!”
